Amazingly good pulled pork sandwich!!! Definitely in my top 5. Wished I lived on the island so I could indulge more than a few times. Owner was extremely nice.

This place was such a great find! Service was fast and food was amazing! I ordered a baby Back ribs plate and they rivaled ribs I’ve had in the south. Love the coleslaw and beans too! Our table had tri tip and pork bbq and all were delicious.

Tri tip was fantastic!! The chicken was also very tender and the pulled pork was tasty but a tad bit dry. The chef has won numerous awards for his BBQ and you can tell he's quite passionate about it. Great value for great food in a very homie atmosphere.

Not the best bbq place. Everything tasted like it had been boiled first. Chicken was dry. Just okay.

Road side BBQ south of Captain Cook. Good que done by a certified pit master. Chickens, floaters and customers running around. Outside covered picnic tables. No frills good food.

Had the tri-tip sandwich. It was very good and my wife had the pulled pork which was promptly inhaled. The coleslaw was also good, the brown beans were tasty but I like a thicker sauce, however that didn't take away from the flavour!

I gotta say, this is some authentic down home BBQ. If you’re just visiting or need a regular BBQ fix, this place has got you covered. Not too Smokey, not too sweet. Just right. The spicy sausage is no joke. Overall, 5 stars. There was something for everyone in the family.

Absolutely delicious smoked meat. I'm not sure if there was a huge order ahead of us, but it took FOREVER for the line to move to place our order, that's why 4 stars instead of 5

What a great find on the roads south of Kona! After wrapping a morning of snorkeling, my wife and I were looking for some lunch, but didn't want to find ourselves at a chain. After a quick search on Google Maps, we decided on Big Jake's, and boy, was that a great decision! It isn't much to look at from the road, but the service and the food is hard to beat. My wife had the pulled chicken sandwich with slaw, and I had the tri-tip sandwich with potato-mac salad, and finished them off with the strawberry shortcake. Both of the meats were excellently done, with the tri-tips melting in your mouth due to the "lots of love" Big Jake poured into them. If you find yourself in the vicinity, do your stomach a favor and stop here; you won't be disappointed.

I’m always looking for good barbecue and this is certainly it. I came back three straight lunches and tried: tri-tip, baby back ribs, brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese. Everything was great! Reminds me of Rudy’s in San Antonio which personally is the best brisket ever.

We love big Jake's. It is worth the drive.

Best BBQ on the the island and we tried a lot of places. The ribs didn't need any sauce they were tender and flavorful. Tom was amazing and was full of useful suggestions and useless information.

Nice place to get some BBQ. They're only open for lunch and it's not a restaurant. You can get the food to go or eat at one of the picnic tables. Food was very tasty and reasonably priced.

I've lived in Texas... And this was the best BBQ I've ever had, hands down!

Wonderful, best cole slaw I have had on the island. And of course the B-B-Q was awesome.

For the best BBQ in the Big Island be sure to stop at Big Jake's Island BBQ. The BBQ is top notch, servings are very generous, and prices are reasonable. My wife and I both had the BBQ pork butt plate. The pork was served over a mound of rice and smothered with an ample amount of BBQ sauce. For our side we had the local mac and potato salad…FANTASTIC! The dining room is a quaint alfresco outside seating area with several picnic benches protected from the sun and rain by a tarp roof. If you want good BBQ, it’s worth the trip down Rt 11!

Fantastic little shack on the side of the road. The most amazing brisket I've ever had, love the potato mac and huge portions. Great customer service, dont be alarmed by the looks of it, it's worth it!!

The ribs were good but the tri-tip was amazing!

Solid BBQ. I had the half chicken, husband the tip. Cooked well, smoky, tangy BBQ sauce. I didn't care for the slaw, otherwise it was a fine and filling meal. We ordered to go, ate at our nearby lodging.

The finest BBQ on the Big Island! Growing up with Texas BBQ, it's pretty hard to find a spot that can compete...but I gotta say...amazing and delicious! We sampled the combo plate with pork, ribs, and chicken, baked beans, and the macaroni salad. The meat selections were smoked to perfection and fell right off the bone. Plus you can always walk across the street to the gas station to grab a tasty beverage to enjoy at their awesome sitting area.

A group of us ate here after kayaking Captain Cook and before snorkling two-step. My family shared two meals of chicken and ribs. Service was slow since the person working the window was alone, but it was well worth the wait.

Delicious food and friendly roosters and chickens! Great little spot to eat and relax, good for kids, too. The BBQ drew us in from the road after snorkeling at the beach. It was very yummy and the staff were friendly and fun. Highly recommend!

It was pretty good. I was hungry and it hit the spot but I doubt I'll go back. There's not a ton of food out that way. If you're hungry, give them a try.

Starving hungry after a great dive at 2-Step, we were SO ready for this amazing place. It ain’t fancy but Oh My the taste and the portions!! My hubby is gluten sensitive so he ordered the chicken/ribs/sausage combo plate with beans, rice and slaw. I ordered the roast chicken with sides. The photo of the “to go” box is what I DIDNT eat!! Enough for dinner tonight!! Fast and friendly service, reasonably priced and truly tasty. So glad we found it!!

Great BBQ place. Food was tasty, service friendly and prices were good. BYOB if you enjoy a beer with your BBQ. They don't have a license to serve but it's okay to bring your own or buy it across the street.
